Advice for a possible new snowbird wanna-be? [by KCS]

Best Retirement Community Purchases:: Advice for a possible new snowbird wanna-be?
I am 51 and looking forward to that one day I can move into what I call semi-retirement. This is where I can give up the high-paying, high stress, high-tech job and work a fun job and probably just part-time. My wife and I live in the Portland, Oregon area and love the summers in the great northwest. The winters, on the other hand, are not as good. When I semi-retire, I would ideally like to live in a less expensive area of Oregon and snowbird to the south--probably to Arkansas where my wife has some family.

Where can I find some good advice and information on living (and likely working) in two states part-time? Is it a good idea to live in retirement communities in both states, or have a conventional home in one and a retirement community in the other? I'm thinking that we would probably split our time just about 50/50 between Oregon and Arkansas. Any web sites or organizations to contact for more advice on how to do this? Thanks!

Kevin

Best Restaurants:: Park Oasis Restaurant
I highly recommend the Park Oasis Restaurant in Mauston, WI at Exit 69 on I-90/94. The food was great and lots of it. If we would have needed a place to stay, we would have stayed at their motel too. It looked very nice with a very inviting outdoor pool on a very hot traveling day.

Best Motels:: Great Motel in Napersville, IL
We stayed in a great motel a couple of weeks ago close to ChicagoLand Speedway where we attended the Nascar races. It was called Country Inn and Suites by Carlson located just off Highway 355. Call 630-505-3353. It was so conveniently located but yet far enough away from the Interstate so as not to hear any of the traffic noise nestled in a residential community. It had a beautiful relaxing garden and a fantastic continental breakfast - better than a restaurant!

Best Motels:: I like this Omaha motel along I-80W
I found a great motel along I-80W at the 142nd Street exit by Cracker Barrel. It's a clean, comfortable, feels-like-home, 2 level, outside entry motel. It is especially nice in the warm months. The motel is Countryside Suites. I stay there every time I am in Omaha. The price is right! Call 402-884-2644 for reservations.

I am thinking of taking a group of people to the black hills this summer. I am looking for a reasonably priced motel in the Spearfish area with reasonably good services and continental breakfasts. Any suggestions? Thanks

A fun restaurant in St. Paul, MN [by Snowbird]

Best Restaurants:: A fun restaurant in St. Paul, MN
My husband and I discovered a fun three generation Italian restaurant, Cossetta's, in St. Paul, MN just off I 94. Take the 5th Street exit off of I94, turn right onto 7th Street, cross Kellogg Blvd and go one block. Turn right at light and right again into the free parking lot for Cossetta's. Cossetta's has wonderful salads, pizza and pasta buffet syle or takeout along with an Italian grocery store. I suggest eating in their upstairs dining area - I love the atmosphere. This restaurant is near the Science Museum/Omni Theater, the Excel Energy Center (MN WILD hockey) and The Ordway.

Best Retirement Community Rentals:: Community retirement rentals for Snowbirds
I am researching renting a condo in a Scottsdale, AZ retirement community from January through April. Does anyone know of any retirement communities that do this? Could you include a website/email?
